Research: Automating Semantic Graph Based Knowledge Assessment

My dissertation research focused on investigating new ways in which students creation of semantic graphs (like concept maps) can promote and assess systems thinking. This involved designing and developing diagraming software to test research questions about how mental models are cognitively constructed and how technology can best support such learning. Found software with improved usability could reduce the time it takes to train students to create semantic graphs, and new methods to automatically detect robust expert-novice differences in understanding.
